Gastroenterology Unit

The UOC of Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy of the P.O. of Cassino is a Complex Structure within the Hospital Department.

The Facility mainly deals with:

  • diseases of the digestive system (esophagus, stomach, intestines);
  • hepatocolestero-pancreatic diseases;
  • proctological diseases;
  • alcohol-related diseases

The UOC of Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy of the PO of Cassino consists of:

  • Inpatient Department, located on the 4th floor of the PO, along the green path, is equipped with N° 15 ordinary beds and 2 DH: diagnosis and treatment of digestive diseases in the acute phase, specifically digestive hemorrhages, chronic inflammatory bowel diseases, bilio-pancreatic pathology, liver pathology, both in ordinary hospitalization and day hospital;
  • Clinical and Digestive Endoscopy Clinic, located adjacent to the 4th floor of the PO plus an outpatient clinic at the Pontecorvo Health Centre;
  • Current medical staff consists of 7 Medical Managers including the Manager dedicated to all existing activities;
  • Department Staff: consists of 11 nurses including out-of-shift units and 2 auxiliaries;
  • Cassino Clinical-Endoscopic Office Ambulatory Staff: 3 nurses and an administrative staff work;
  • Pontecorvo Clinical-Endoscopic Ambulatory Staff: 2 nurses on active duty and a social worker who deals with alcohol counseling.

Purpose of the service

The UOC of Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy deals with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the digestive system, aimed at the needs of the user, compatible with the available resources. The activity of the UOC is oriented:

  • to guarantee the quality, continuity and transparency of the services provided, trying to maintain adequate standards;
  • through continuous verification of the quality of performance, competence and updating of personnel, the adoption of more appropriate protocols and guidelines, the use of modern equipment and constantly subjected to technical surveillance. The disinfection systems of the instruments are highly effective and traceable with a printed report and most of the accessories used are single-use.

Services/Activities provided

The services provided are as follows:

  • Diagnostic and operative Endoscopy Clinic of the upper and lower digestive tract;
  • Emergency/endoscopic emergencies H24;
  • Video Capsule Endoscopy Service;
  • Diagnostic-therapeutic PAC outpatient clinic;
  • Admission to Day Hospital;
  • It will receive internal consultancy (departments and P.S.);
  • Outpatient clinical outpatient clinic for:
    • Gastroenterology;
    • Hepatology;
    • Alkology;
    • IBD;
    • Celiac disease
  • Divisional outpatient clinic to ensure continuous care for patients in the months following discharge with direct access, in particular with regard to liver and intestinal diseases (IBD);
  • Breath test for HP and lactose intolerance, (Pontecorvo office);
  • Alkological counseling clinic (Pontecorvo office)

The specialist services provided are as follows:

  • Diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy of the upper digestive tract;
  • Diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy of the lower digestive tract;
  • Videocapsular endoscopy;
  • Peg evaluation and positioning;
  • Outpatient visits and internal and P.S. consultations;
  • Diagnostic-therapeutic package:
    • anaemia
    • celiac disease
    • follow up colorectal cancer
    • chronic liver disease
    • iV administration of drugs
  • iBD Biological Therapy Reference Center
  • reference centre for prescribing hepatitis B drugs
  • reference centre for certification of exemption for celiac disease.

Recipients

The entire population aged 14 and over

How to access

The inpatient ward can be accessed through:

  • urgent hospitalization (through P.S.);
  • scheduled ordinary hospitalization;
  • scheduled admission to D.H.

Both clinical and endoscopic outpatient services are offered through:

  • cUP booking;
  • p.S. consultancy;
  • with direct access for post-recovery check-ups, especially in the case of liver and intestinal diseases (IBD)

Hours and days of receipt

The hours and days of receipt of the UOC of Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy of the PO of Cassino are as follows:

  • Endoscopic outpatient clinic every morning from Monday to Saturday;
  • Clinical outpatient clinic every morning from Monday to Friday;
  • Reception hours for medical staff in the ward every day except Sundays and holidays from 1 pm to 2 pm;
  • Visitor entrance every day from 13:00 to 14:00 and from 19:00 to 20:00 (children under the age of 12 are not allowed)
