The promotion of health in the workplace (Workplace Health Promotion – WHP) is defined by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work as the combination of the joint efforts made by employers, workers, doctors, health professionals and Institutions to improve the health and well-being of people in the workplace, and therefore has the objective, by intervening on “lifestyles”, to prevent or modify those harmful behaviors that constitute the main risk factors for the most frequent chronic diseases (cardiovascular diseases, cancers, respiratory diseases, diabetes). Workplaces are identified as a privileged context for the implementation of these interventions and aimed at social and health equity. The plan provides for the development of effective health promotion interventions with respect to various topics, such as: combating smoking, relationship with alcoholic beverages, proper nutrition, and motor activity. This means taking action to encourage staff to participate in healthy activities and to support change in individual lifestyles. There are advantages for the community, the individual worker and the Company in economic terms for a reduction in illnesses, absenteeism and early early retirement, and awareness of the all-round value of health is enhanced.
