The gastroenterology department at Spaziani has beds

From Monday, 8 new beds for the specialty of gastroenterology will be active at the Spaziani hospital in Frosinone.

The new department, always led by the head of the medical department, Dr Stefano Brighi, will allow:

  • to decongest the P.S. and the Internal Medicine Department by taking care of specialist patients suffering from gastroenteric diseases;
  • taking care of patients with P.S. suffering from digestive diseases that require emergency/urgent treatment (e.g. digestive haemorrhages of the upper and lower digestive tract; decompensated liver diseases) with the possibility of diagnosis and treatment in a specialist care setting and therefore more appropriate in terms of effectiveness/efficiency;
  • the possibility of diagnosis and treatment for all diseases of the gastroenteric tract such as : acute and chronic liver diseases; acute and chronic diseases of the pancreas; exacerbated chronic inflammatory bowel diseases, diagnosis and treatment of neoplasms of the digestive tract – of the liver and pancreas, malabsorption, deficiency and loss anemia;
  • the reduction of improper admissions to other hospital wards (e.g. surgery ward;
  • the possibility of performing, thanks to the DH, all those operative endoscopic procedures that require post-procedural monitoring, without resorting to ordinary hospitalization, thus optimizing the management of acute beds;
  • to increase the endoscopic activity for the most complex operating procedures that require hospitalization.

In addition, the UOC of Gastroenterology of the PO of Frosinone has long been included in the training network of the School of Specialization in Diseases of the Digestive System of the Sapienza University of Rome, for teaching in Digestive Endoscopy and Abdominal Ultrasound; with the activation of the inpatient department, the training offer is expanded and this involves the possibility of having additional doctors specializing in the PO of Frosinone to support clinical and care activities.
