Refugee assistance: almost 1000 STPs released in the first 6 months of 2022

The Multiethnic Service of the Asl of Frosinone draws up the balance sheet for these first six months of 2022. A ceaseless work and a multiplied commitment to deal with the Ukrainian emergency that has brought almost 600 war refugees to the territory to assist and support.

From 1 January to 30 June, 952 STP Health Cards (temporarily present foreigners) were issued, of which about 60% (573) concerned Ukrainian refugees while the remaining 40% (379) asylum seekers of other nationalities (predominantly sub-Saharan Africans, Egyptians and Bengalis).

Let’s take stock of the situation with Dr. Mario Limodio Head of the Multiethnic Service – U.O.S.D. Integrated Health Services: Immigrants, Gender Medicine and the fight against Poverty

“The emergency of Ukrainian refugees, since the tragic 24 February, the beginning of the war, has  been handled excellently in our province by the institutions and the ASL when Covid still did not seem to recede. Prefecture, Civil Protection, Caritas, other organizations and the proverbial solidarity of the people of Chiocia have made it possible to organize an exemplary welcome “.

What state did the refugees arrive in?

“Our Simple Departmental Operational Unit has mainly taken charge of young women with children, psychologically devastated, who fled a war leaving their comrades to fight. These refugees were welcomed, visited, and tamponaded. Less than 2% tested positive for SARS-CoV2 (and promptly cured and isolated). They were offered screening  for pathologies and infectious diseases and, in collaboration with the Vaccine Centres, vaccinations were carried out for individual and collective prevention “.

The spotlight on the war seems to be turning off but the humanitarian emergency remains

Ukrainian refugees are enjoying the status of International Protection, they have made the choice of General Practitioners and Paediatricians of Free Choice. We recommend continuity of care to colleagues while remaining available. A call to all health workers to continue this wonderful solidarity race.

The Asl of Frosinone assists not only Ukrainians

It is true, the other asylum seekers from the countries of the South of the World are not class B. As Gino Strada taught us, we will continue to treat people well without discrimination, independently and neutrally and with empathy.
